Why this role matters

Eurosender and SnT are collaborating on an ambitious RDI project to create a scalable intermodal booking platform that integrates road and rail transport, optimizes cost and CO₂ emissions, and delivers real-time booking capabilities to European shippers. As a Research Associate (Postdoc), you will drive the scientific core of this project: developing advanced optimization and emissions models, exploring hybrid approaches (exact, heuristic, machine learning, and quantum), and steering their integration into a real platform. Beyond research, you will also mentor junior team members and help translate cutting-edge methods into tangible impact for the logistics industry.

Your responsibilities

• Lead research on optimization and emissions work packages.
• Develop new algorithms and methodologies for multi-objective routing.
• Supervise PhD candidates and technical staff.
• Publish in leading international conferences and journals.
• Collaborate with industry partners to integrate research into operational systems.
• Engage with emerging approaches such as quantum optimization.

Your profile

• PhD in Operations Research, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
• Proven research record in optimization and/or transport logistics.
• Experience with programming languages commonly used in optimization and data science (e.g., Python, Julia, Java, or C++).
  
• Strong publication record and excellent communication skills in English.

Nice to have

• Experience with emissions modelling in logistics.
• Familiarity with quantum optimization methods.
• Industry collaboration experience.
